Wax, Sealants and Opti-Coat Pro

There are three general types of protection you can apply to your car's factory clear coat, more commonly referred to as "your car's paint". Namely wax's, sealants or Coatings.

The most common is wax. While some consider wax an old technology, Carnauba waxes have earned their reputation and will always have their place in car care - from the enthusiasts that appreciate the rich deep reflections of Carnauba Wax, to the collector of show cars. Waxes will wear off under normal conditions such as, repeated washings and exposure to the environment, and, last a few months at most.

Sealants are man-made, of synthetic ingredients (polymers), that protect a cars clear coat (paint) by cross linking and bonding to the paint. Sealants provide a type of shine to the paint that is different from that of Carnauba wax. Sealants will also degrade much like waxes, but some can last up to one year. Many enthusiasts use both a sealant and a wax, performing a practice commonly known as Topping, in which a paint sealant is first applied to provide protection followed by the application of a Carnauba car wax, providing the finish with more warmth and glow.

The problem is both waxes and sealants can be removed by solvents (many waxes contain solvents and abrasives - which is another story) and even strong soaps like dish soap. Not to mention the extreme chemicals used by commercial car washes.

The latest technologies developed to protect your cars paint finish are referred to as "Paint Coatings"

Optimum Polymer Technology's Paint Coatings are ceramic based products that provide unequaled performance over regular waxes or sealants.

The benefits of Optimum paint coatings such as Opti-Coat Pro and Gloss-Coat include:

  • Superior Durability. Optimum Paint Coatings lasts for years, and in the case of Opti-Coat Pro+, the manufacturer warrants 7 Years!*
  • Optimum Gloss-Coat™ while not as long lasting as Opti-Coat Pro, offers excellent protection and unmatched gloss. It has a life expectancy of 3 years.
  • Scratch resistance. While not scratch proof, coatings do provide considerably greater resistance to environmentally caused contamination that result in paint damage.
  • Opti-Coat is resistant to the acids found in bird and insect droppings and the damaging effects of road salt, to name just a few. It will not be damaged by extreme heat and therefore resists oxidation that is the   primary cause of clear coat failure.

Opti-Coated vehicles are much easier to clean and maintain because they don't allow soil or contaminants to "stick" to a vehicle. Opti-Coat is self-cleaning, that is to say it exhibits something known as the ‘Lotus effect’. Many times a light rinse of water will wash away the dirt particles which are present on the surface of your car. This is the basis of the self-cleaning action of surfaces, such as the lotus blossom, which gives the effect its name.

Spectacular. Whereas with wax or sealants the "fresh waxed" looked fades relatively quickly, the appearance that Opti-Coat provides lasts for the life of the coating.

   Additional benefits of Opti-Coat Pro?

  • Your car's paint will be protected from the damaging effects of bird droppings, bug splatter, tree sap, etc.
  • Your car will continue to have a glossy appearance without the need to apply waxes or sealants.
  • Your car will stay cleaner longer and will require much less effort to clean in the future due to the coatings release properties.
  • Did we say that Opti-Coat Pro does not need to be waxed?
  • Opti-Coat Pro+ comes with a 7 year warranty against chemical etching and staining.*

What Opti Coat Pro will not do.

As is mentioned elsewhere, Opti Coat Pro is not immune from improper wash techniques such as commercial drive though brush car washes. They will scratch Opti Coat Pro; as well as any factory paint or aftermarket paint coating. Opti Coat Pro will not prevent rock chips. Although more resistant to scratching from washing and drying than your cars factory paint, using a broom, for example, to remove snow from your car can scratch Opti-Coat. The benefit is in the fact that you have not scratched you cars paint. Most any defects to Opti-Coat can be buffed off preserving the finish of your cars original factory clear coat paint.

 1. Opti-Coat Pro+ Warranty is valid for Seven (7) years from the date of application for any vehicle that is Five (5) model years old or newer.

 2. Opti-Coat Pro Warranty is valid for Five (5) years from the date of application for any vehicle that is Six (6) model years to Ten (10) model years old.

 3. Any vehicle that is older than Ten (10) model years at the time of application cannot be warranted.

Not only does Opti-Coat protect your paint finish, but it leaves an extraordinary shine and gloss that does not require waxing for up to five years!

Opti-Coat works by bonding to your factory clear coating and becomes a permanent part of your vehicles paint system. Just like the clear coat bonds to the base coat, Opti-Coat bonds chemically to the clear coat.

7 Year manufacturer's warranty !

Opti-Coat has better chemical resistance, scratch & mar resistance, and release properties than any automotive paint coating in use. It provides permanent protection for all modern factory paints and can also be used to protect metal and hard plastic surfaces. Furthermore, we know of no other Santa Fe Detail Shop or New Car Dealer that offers anything that comes close to Opt-Coat.

Opti-Coat is a hard wearing, ceramic clear coat for superior resistance to scratching (9H) and protection from chemical etching due to environmental impacts.

Opti-Coat pre-polymer cross links, and forms a continuous protective film on the painted surface it is applied to, similar to a single component isocyanate that forms you cars clear coat finish.
